The developer community in Poland has undergone a complete transformation over the past several years. It started with a couple of people meeting up randomly two times a year and has evolved into a vibrant, supportive, inclusive and active community. Dozens of individuals and studios from all across the country are joining in its activities, traveling, showcasing their games and helping each other out if necessary. Poland has a growing number of indie studios and increasing support from big companies, the government, and Indie Games Polska, an organisation founded specifically to help indie developers. This is a postmortem about the building of a community in an emerging country.
This talk will be a postmortem about building a community in an emerging country throughout several years. By sharing this story, Sos Sosowski hopes to both inspire and inform developers wishing to either create or improve their local community on a micro and macro scale. He will do so by giving a detailed account as to how the transformation happened.
Indie developers, game curators, local event organisers, local developer organisation members and anyone wishing to improve or kickstart a community in their area, region or even country.
